Take a look at this recent post by Lisa Kuhn Fraioli on a Peruvian woman and her experiences with microfinance and health shocks.

Assisting poor clients in overcoming health shocks, such as that recounted in Fraioli’s post, is an essential goal of any pro-poor microfinance strategy. We can see examples where health insurance products, health loans, and health education can improve the ability of people living in poverty to overcome such shocks. To aid in this process, Freedom From Hunger has created a Technical Guide for MFIs on health loans.
